It’s the final week of our memory initiative #HidingHisWordinmyheart! Wonderfully, each day of this week leads us to Pentecost Sunday!
For those who have been on this journey memorising scripture over the past 6 weeks, thanks for being with us. We hope you have found the resources useful. Writing His Word on our hearts is so important. We’re delighted you’re still here and we’re cheering you on! Let’s finish this initiative together.

This final week’s Scripture is found in Matthew and tells us the last command Jesus gave His disciples. It’s a command that is just as important to us, as His disciples, today. It’s Matthew 28:18-20.

These verses are sometimes referred to as ‘The Great Commission’. When we devote ourselves to following Jesus (Matt 16:24), these words become living and active. They speak of everyday obedience, transformation, and faith. The everydayness of where God has called you to. (Selah).
Jesus’ words compel us to continual growth and multiplication. To become mature disciples. To be disciples that make disciples. To actively take the good news we have been entrusted with to others. To not spectate on the side-lines, but to be part of what God is doing and listen for His direction. We can be quick to underestimate the impact we have, but God has plans and purposes for each of us. As we submit to His leading, and respond to the Holy Spirit’s nudges, we become vessels He uses for His glory.

Jesus’ words in Matthew 28 are also a message of strengthening assurance that as we are sent, we don’t go in our own strength, but in His power. Incredibly, in His last words before ascending into heaven (v20), Jesus reassures us He is with us “to the very end of the age”. Hear that today. No matter what, He is with us.
As promised, we’ve provided cue cards to print out at home. There are 5 larger cue cards, which have gradually more blanks in them. This is to help you to test your memory as you move through the week. There is also a smaller pocket cue card, so you can take it with you wherever you go.
You can download the cue cards and pocket card A4 file here.
We encourage you to read around this week’s verses. So, what is God’s Word saying to you as you read this week’s verse? Think on the ‘doing’ words of the verses. How has this verse been important to you in the past? How does its Truth change you?
We pray they would sink deeply into your heart and mind. May God bless you as you purposefully dwell on His word and allow the Holy Spirit to write it on your heart.
Enjoy this final leg of our journey! We’ll be memorising right alongside you!
Love the Come Closer Team
P.S: We leave you this week with a quote from John Piper. As we look to fulfilling Jesus’ commandment, we do so motivated by God’s love in us and lives surrendered to His service.
